INAHTA Board Director, 2026
CONITEC, Brazil
Marcela Freitas has worked in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) since 2020, beginning her career as a hospital-based HTA pharmacist. Before joining the HTA field, she conducted academic research in the development of novel biopharmaceuticals, contributing to the generation of scientific evidence for health—an experience that inspired her commitment to applying evidence to inform decision-making and ultimately led her to pursue a career in HTA.
In 2022, she joined the Department of Management and Incorporation of Health Technologies at the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation in Health of the Ministry of Health of Brazil, serving as Executive Secretariat of CONITEC.
Since August 2025, she has been appointed General Coordinator of Strategic Management of Health Technologies, where she oversees the Executive Secretariat of the Brazilian HTA Network (REBRATS). Her work focuses on managing priority HTA research for the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), developing capacity building initiatives, advancing methodological standards to strengthen the quality and excellence of HTA studies, and disseminating HTA in Brazil through organization of events, webinars, newsletters and other communication platforms.
She also serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the Health Technology Assessment Network of the Americas (RedETSA).
