Luciana Ballini graduated in Sociology at the London School of Economics and has a Master in Methods of clinical and epidemiological research. She is head of the regional Health Technology Assessment Centre of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. She has expertise in Evidence Based Medicine methodology, including critical appraisal and synthesis of biomedical research, systematic review and meta-analysis, quality assessment of studies and grading of evidence, identification and prioritization of research gaps.

Since 2006, she has been leading Emilia-Romagna’s participation in the EUnetHTA project and three Joint Actions, during which she has served twice as Chair of the EUnetHTA Plenary Assembly, during the terms 2014-2016 and 2018-2021.

She is editor of the Cochrane Collaboration Review group named Effective Practice and Organization of Care (EPOC).

RER has been a member of INAHTA for over 15 years and has participated in all the activities related to the sharing of information, the drafting of Strategic Plans and of the Position Statements. Luciana has shared her agency’s experience at INAHTA Congresses and has participated in the work of Congress planning committees and various task groups.
