History and Structure

The Colombian agency of health technology assessment, Instituto de Evaluación Tecnológica en Salud (IETS), is a not-for-profit, public-private agency established in September 2011. Its members include the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Colombian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the National Institute of Food and Drug Monitoring (INVIMA), the National Institute of Health (INS), the Colombian Medical School Association (Ascofame) and the Colombian Association of Scientific Societies.

What do we do?

  • From scientific, economic, and social perspectives, we rigorously evaluate healthcare technologies.
  • We promote participation by engaging healthcare system users and stakeholders.
  • We provide reliable information to enhance equitable and quality access to healthcare technologies.

Mission

Our main goal is to generate evidence with scientific rigor to support decision-making in healthcare, standardize clinical practice, and contribute to the sustainability of the Colombian healthcare system.

How IETS Works

IETS produces health technology assessments, economic evaluations, budget impact analyses, systematic reviews, evidence-based clinical guidelines and protocols of drugs, medical devices, procedures and treatments to support policy makers and healthcare professionals decide what technologies are effective, offer the best quality and value for money and therefore should be financed with public funds.

Current Projects (A Selection):

  • Clinical practice guidelines for the timely detection, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of lymphomas and leukemias in children and adolescents.
  • Therapeutic approaches for non-communicable chronic diseases
  • Budget impact analysis of contact lenses and wheelchairs.
